Lake Tahoe Dog Sled Adventures

Have you ever wanted to ride on a sled sliding over snow behind a team of eager huskies?
Just half-an-hour south of Lake Tahoe on Highway 88, stands a vast, uncluttered valley. Hope Valley has remained unchanged since Snowshoe Thompson skied it in the 1850's. It's a good place for a dog sled ride since it's a bit reminiscent of the Alaska interior.

Preparation for the Sled Dog season is a year long commitment. In the fall we spend many hours getting the teams trained and conditioned using a three wheeled cart over dirt roads. We train until there is enough snow in hope valley to start the tours.

Join 30-year veteran musher Dotty Dennis and her dogs for an exciting and memorable winter adventure. Husky Express dog sledding is going strong! From the footsteps of it's first skier, Snowshoe Thompson, Heavenly's history has been filled with many colorful memories. The Heavenly story from beginning to end is sure to bring a tear to your eye and smile to your face.

When you stand on the summit of Monument Peak, some 10,100 feet above sea level, and marvel at the sheer size of Heavenly with its grand vistas of two states, you may find it hard to believe that this place began as little more than a rope tow and a ski run.

But a handful of visionaries who dreamed of creating a world-class destination resort really did make a mountain out of a molehill. Their story is one of passion and pain, and of battling constant adversity and now you can hear all about it while on the slopes.

Heavenly Ski Resort is now offering a new program geared toward the history of Heavenly Mountain. You can now ski with a ranger for free on Monday or Friday at 10:00am or 1:00pm and learn the history, facts and secrets Heavenly Mountain. All participants must be able to ski at an intermediate level. No need to reserve just meet the ranger at the top of the Gondola and have a heavenly day!

Fall is the Time to Enjoy Tahoe!

Weekends are made for Fall Getaways to Lake Tahoe! With the crush of the crowds returning home to start the new school year as everyone falls back into the groove of work, school, sports and life after summer, it is during this time that Lake Tahoe is maturing into a beautiful fall canvas of golden aspen trees, cool days on the beach and glowing evening skies as the sun sets a little earlier than normal behind the Majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains.

With great deals to be found at our property, Fall is a great time of the year to enjoy Tahoe at one of its finest moments. It is almost like a sleeping black bear that has decided to wake up and stretch it's legs after a long nap. Tahoe truly comes to life in the fall with a beauty that can not be described unless you experience it yourself.

One of the things the area is known for during the fall months are the changing colors of the aspen trees as they change from their shimmering green to a warm golden hue. There are several areas where the colors are abunbant. Heading out towards Kirkwood Ski Resort on HWY 88 you will find cars parked along the side of the road with people flocking to the golden coated areas. Another area is Brockway Summit heading toward Truckee just before Northstar Ski Resort.

The trees aren't the only things happening in the area in the Fall. During the months of September and October Lake Tahoe welcomes Tour de Tahoe - Bike Big Blue (September) which gives participants the ability to enjoy the 72-mile shoreline of Tahoe via bicycle, The 23rd Annual Cool September Days Car Show at South Shore, Lake Tahoe Marathon Week (September & October), Nissan XTERRA USA Championships (October), Kokanee Salmon Festival (October) and the Annual Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson are just to name a few of the things to enjoy around the area.

So, if you're not quite ready to bring your summer to a close or just need a quick getaway for a weekend consider all the things that Lake Tahoe and its surrounding areas have to offer. It is the perfect way to welcome the fall season.

2009/2010 El Nino in the Making

It has been suggested by many people in the Lake Tahoe Basin that we are gearing up for a strong El Nino Winter. With small cold blasts popping in from time to time in July and now another one this week during August researchers believe that this is just the beginning of a bountiful winter of precipitation.
